Executive members of the Dama Chiefdom Policing Partnership Committee (CPPC) have held a crucial meeting with the newly appointed Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Kenema Division, Chief Superintendent Bob Musa Nazlic Mansaray, in a proactive move to bolster local security.
The engagement seeks a renewed commitment to fostering robust collaboration between law enforcement and the community, aiming to enhance safety across Dama Chiefdom.
During the meeting, CPPC Chairman Mohammed Victor Bockarie extended a warm welcome to Chief Superintendent Mansaray and lauded the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Kenema Division for its consistent efforts in integrating civilians into policing initiatives.
Bockarie highlighted the significant improvements in chiefdom safety since the introduction of community policing, noting a considerable reduction in crime rates compared to previous years.
A key point of discussion revolved around pressing security concerns, particularly the urgent need for a permanent police post or station in Dama Chiefdom, which currently lacks this essential infrastructure.
In response, Chief Superintendent Mansaray commended the Dama community's proactive approach to supporting police efforts. He underscored the critical role of strong community collaboration in effective policing, emphasizing that law enforcement alone cannot guarantee security without the active participation of the populace it serves.
“Community policing is essential in preventing crime,” LUC Mansaray stated. “Criminal activity thrives where it is tolerated, but when local authorities and residents work together with the police, crime is deterred.”
He encouraged the CPPC to maintain its cooperative stance with the police and reiterated his dedication to forging stronger partnerships across all thirteen chiefdoms under his command.
The LUC also pledged to personally visit each chiefdom to engage with key stakeholders and promote collaborative policing strategies.
Chief Superintendent Mansaray assured the Dama community of his open-door policy and unwavering support in addressing their security concerns.
This engagement emphasizes a shared commitment to cultivating a safer and more secure environment through strengthened community-police partnerships.
