Residents of Kenema are reeling from a devastating fire outbreak that occurred Yesterday 6th February, at No. 2 Kaisamba Terrace. The incident resulted in the destruction of seven (7) commercial shops and a dwelling house comprising eight (8) living rooms.
The blaze, which erupted earlier today, has caused considerable distress among local business owners and residents, many of whom rushed to the scene to assist in salvaging property and aiding affected traders.
This latest disaster follows a recent fire that impacted the Nyapui Secondary School of Excellence, fueling serious community concern regarding the increasing frequency of fire incidents within the city.
Community leaders are urgently calling upon authorities to thoroughly investigate the underlying causes of these recurring fires and implement robust preventative measures to safeguard lives and property.
In the interim, residents are being encouraged to check on loved ones and extend support to the families and traders impacted by the tragedy.
The National Fire Force and the Sierra Leone Police Force, Kenema Division, were promptly alerted. Their timely arrival and deployment of a fire engine were crucial in preventing the fire from spreading further and causing more extensive destruction. While investigations are active, the official cause of the fire remains unestablished, although speculation suggests an electrical fault may have been the source of the inferno.
Firefighters executed a tireless effort to contain the blaze and secure the remaining structures in the vicinity.
