A major fire broke out on Sunday, April 19, at approximately 1:30 PM, severely damaging a residential property at 65 Massaquoi Street. The incident has left several families homeless and prompted an urgent appeal for community and government assistance.

The blaze was first detected by neighbors who observed dense smoke rising from the rear of the large residence, which comprises more than ten rooms and an attached storefront. Despite efforts to contain the flames, the fire rapidly consumed the back of the structure, resulting in a total loss of property and personal belongings for those residing in that section.

The front portion of the building also sustained significant damage, estimated at roughly 25%. Many residents were not present during the outbreak, as they were visiting relatives or attending religious services, returning only to find their homes and livelihoods destroyed. Witnesses have praised the Sierra Leone Fire Force for their professional response, noting that their intervention prevented the fire from spreading further into the neighborhood.

The affected families are currently without shelter and lack basic necessities. They are issuing an urgent plea to philanthropists, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations for humanitarian aid to help them navigate this crisis. Support is needed for temporary housing, food, and clothing as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding.

While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, this tragedy highlights the critical need for community solidarity and robust emergency support systems. Local authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation continues.
