Electrician Cleared of Drug Charges at High Court

An electrician, Vagga Kamara, was formally discharged by the Freetown High Court on Monday, June 29, 2026, marking the conclusion of a prolonged legal case regarding alleged drug possession.

Justice Mark Ngegba presided over the hearing, where the state opted to drop all charges against the defendant. The decision followed the presentation of laboratory test results by State Counsel Aruna Jalloh, which confirmed that the substance previously seized from Kamara tested negative for illegal narcotics.

The case dates back to an incident on October 25, 2025, when Kamara was initially charged with the unlawful possession of 225 milligrams of tramadol, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act of 2008.

During the proceedings, Counsel Jalloh explained that the substance, which had been subjected to examination during preliminary hearings at the Magistrate Court, was sent for further testing at the Transnational Organized Crime Unit’s laboratory.

Upon confirmation that the substance did not contain illicit drugs, the prosecution moved for a discharge, a request Justice Ngegba subsequently granted, effectively clearing Kamara of the indictment.
