Electricity & Water Regulation Commission approves increased prices for Electricity & Sachet water


The Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulation Commission (SLEWRC) has issued two press releases announcing that it has approved a revised increase in the price of bundle sachet water and tariffs for electricity for prepaid and postpaid meters.


The decision to increase the price of water was made following a meeting with the Water Union, which sought to fairly determine a price that balances business sustainability and consumer affordability.


During the meeting, it was disclosed that the new factory price will be seven thousand Leones (Nle7), distributors’ at eight thousand Leones (Nle 8) and retail at nine thousand Leones (Nle9).


Similarly, the SLEWRC disclosed that new tariffs for the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) have been approved. The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) which is the primary power Supply agency had written a request to the Government requesting an increase in its tariff from 11 cents to 23 Cents.


However, according to SLEWRC, a compromise was reached at 0.21 cents. These new tariffs will be reflected from October 1st, 2023.
