Employment Minister Urges More Decent and Sustainable Jobs

The Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Umaru Napoleon Koroma, has stressed the need to create more sustainable jobs as part of efforts to improve livelihoods and strengthen Sierra Leone’s economy.

Minister Koroma made the statement on September 16, 2026, during the launch of the FY2027 Budget in Freetown.

He said expanding employment opportunities could help reduce poverty, increase household incomes and contribute to a more stable and resilient economy.

According to the Minister, the government’s employment agenda is aligned with the theme of this year’s Budget Policy Hearing, “Building Resilience to Create Jobs.”

He called for stronger collaboration among relevant sectors to expand opportunities for decent and sustainable employment for Sierra Leoneans.

The budget launch was attended by President Julius Maada Bio, Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic and consular corps, and representatives of the media.
