ETU Lays Foundation for New Student Canteen

The Eastern Technical University (ETU) has officially turned the sod for the construction of a new student canteen, a milestone aimed at improving student welfare and campus facilities.
The event, held on the ETU campus, brought together students, Student Union Government (SUG) officials, university administrators, and members of Young Women in Governance, among other stakeholders.
Speaking at the ceremony, University Registrar John Juana commended the initiative led by SUG President Mariame Baimba Keita, noting that the canteen would create a friendly and conducive environment for students. He emphasized that the university possesses land suitable for developmental activities and called on all stakeholders to monitor the project closely to ensure it benefits the entire university community.
County Director of SEND Salone, Joseph Ayamga, pledged his institution’s support, underscoring that leadership is measured by actions. He encouraged collaboration among stakeholders to guarantee the success of the initiative.
Dean of Students Moijueh Kamara also praised the project, describing it as timely and beneficial for students. He commended Dr Mohamed Sidis Tunis for extending his support to the university.
SUG President Keita expressed gratitude, describing the canteen project as a “dream come true” and a major milestone for the student body. She acknowledged the support received from Dr Tunis and the university administration, highlighting her commitment since election to improving student welfare. President Keita also emphasized her desire to leave lasting legacies for future students and to create platforms empowering women in leadership.
The event concluded with the laying of the foundation stone for the canteen, followed by a vote of thanks, photo sessions, and interactive engagements among participants. Stakeholders described the initiative as a transformative development for ETU, setting the stage for enhanced campus life and student services.
