Fatal Pujehun Accident Leaves Military Officer Dead, 15 Injured

A fatal road accident occurred in Pujehun Town following chaos at an election venue, leaving one military officer dead and 15 other individuals seriously injured. The victims were rushed to the Pujehun Government Hospital shortly after a Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) vehicle overturned near the centre of town.

The vehicle involved, an RSLAF transport attached to the 14th Infantry Battalion with registration plate CO14 BAN 72SL57, somersaulted at the Pujehun Centre Mosque, directly opposite the FOCUS1000 office in Pujehun Town.

The crash occurred while security forces were transporting election materials back to the barracks following the conclusion of the APC Constituency 100 election at the party office. According to reports, the closing of the election was fraught with tensions, prompting security personnel to deploy tear gas to disperse a surrounding crowd.

The high speed at which the security team departed the scene amidst the unrest ultimately contributed to the vehicle overturning.

A total of 15 people sustained severe injuries in the crash, including nine military personnel, three Operational Support Division (OSD) officers, and three civilians. All injured individuals were immediately transported to Pujehun Government Hospital for medical treatment.

It was later confirmed that one of the injured victims, a military officer identified as Officer Kamanda, succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
