The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) convened key leadership on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, for a high-level strategic dialogue with technology provider Triple-A (AAA). The meeting focused on establishing joint initiatives to modernize port operations, fortify security infrastructure, and accelerate smart port integration across the national maritime network.

The engagement brought together senior decision-makers, including SLPHA Board Chairman Hon. Manso Dumbuya, Director General Yankuba Askia Bio, Deputy Director General Madam Judith Boi Kosseh, along with departmental directors and representatives from Triple-A.

During the session, Triple-A presented a suite of artificial intelligence-enabled solutions designed to enhance container intelligence, automated vehicle tracking, and resilient port logistics. Proposals included unified safety and security management platforms, digital port twin simulations, and end-to-end container monitoring extending past port gates.

These operational upgrades come at a critical time as the Authority prepares for a comprehensive audit by the U.S. Coast Guard scheduled for November. Director General Yankuba Askia Bio emphasized that significant infrastructure enhancements are already underway at the Port of Freetown to satisfy global maritime standards.

Key priorities finalized during the meeting encompass thorough gap assessments, specialized security and safety training, updated access control mechanisms, and the formulation of a long-term Port Masterplan.

SLPHA executive management urged all stakeholders to expedite implementation, defining clear short-, medium-, and long-term targets to support national maritime growth.
