First family bids farewell to gunned down Police personnel ASP Gbanya


His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Madam Fatima Bio have today bade farewell to ASP Mathew Moiwa Gbanya who was gunned down in Makeni, on Saturday 8th April 2023.


ASP Gbanya was shot and killed by unknown assailant whilst on errands that day. Until his death, he was OSD regional Coordinator in the North-East region headquarter town of Makeni.


Speaking, President Bio lauded the task of policing which cannot be adequately compensated and expressed sadness that it is officials of this work that some people have chosen to target.


He condemned anarchists acting against the rule of law and urged the police to investigate, locate and prosecute those involved in Gbanya’s death.



President Bio furthered that consoling the widow of Gbanya is an insurmountable task presently but prays for fortitude for her and families of hers and the deceased.


He asked the police to be vigilant and professional whilst executing their duties especially in the wake of such incidences


ASP Gbanya was then laid to rest at The Police Training School, Hastings.
