First Lady Bags Master’s Degree in Public Health from UCLA

Sierra Leone’s First Lady and President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), Fatima Maada Bio, has earned a Master of Public Health Administration (MPH) degree from the University of California, Los Angeles Fielding School of Public Health.

She announced the achievement in a message to Sierra Leoneans, describing it as a significant milestone in her academic journey and expressing gratitude for the support she received throughout her studies.

“By the grace and blessings of Almighty Allah, I have arrived safely in the United States to mark a monumental milestone in my educational journey,” she said.

Dr. Bio noted that she was honoured to graduate alongside the UCLA Class of 2026, adding that the accomplishment represents both a personal achievement and the support of Sierra Leoneans.

“This achievement is not mine alone; it belongs to all Sierra Leoneans. Your prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support have been a constant source of strength throughout this journey,” she said.

She explained that the Master of Public Health Administration programme focuses on strengthening health systems, improving access to quality healthcare, shaping effective policies, and preparing leaders to respond to global health challenges.

Dr. Bio added that the knowledge and skills gained will further strengthen her commitment to advancing health, well-being, and development initiatives in Sierra Leone.

She was among graduates awarded during the commencement ceremony held on June 12, 2026, in Los Angeles, United States.

She further emphasized that public health administration plays a critical role in building resilient healthcare systems and improving service delivery.

The First Lady’s latest academic achievement marks another milestone in her public service and continued engagement in health and development initiatives in Sierra Leone and across Africa.
