Five Government Buses Destroyed in Kissy Depot Fire, Investigation Underway

An investigation is underway after a late-night fire broke out at the Kissy Bus Depot on Friday, June 5, destroying five government-owned provincial buses.

The Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority (SLPTA) confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the fire erupted during the night and affected buses assigned to provincial routes.

The blaze was contained following a rapid response by the National Fire Force, whose personnel managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other vehicles and nearby structures within the depot.

The SLPTA assured the public that none of the newly introduced “Waka Fine” buses, which operate on key metropolitan routes, were affected by the incident.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established. However, the SLPTA said it is working closely with the National Fire Force to determine how the blaze started.

Further updates are expected as investigations continue and authorities assess the extent of the damage.
