Luawa FC head coach Flávio Silva has openly criticized the officiating in the Sierra Leone Premier League following his team's loss to East End Lions. The Portuguese coach expressed significant disappointment, highlighting what he considered an excessive extension of injury time.
Silva noted that after the regulation 90 minutes ended with a 2-2 draw, the referee initially added six minutes of extra time. However, the match continued well beyond this, with East End Lions scoring the winning goal in the "12th minute" of additional time, four minutes past the announced six.
Silva's frustration was evident as he remarked, "In 22 years of football, I have NEVER seen anything like what I witnessed today. Africa needs help from C.A.F." This passionate statement underscores his belief that the incident reflects a broader issue within African football officiating, requiring intervention from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This contentious defeat places additional pressure on Silva and his team as they prepare for their upcoming critical match against second-place Bhantal FC on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
The coach's candid criticism may attract attention from league officials, potentially leading to increased scrutiny of future matches and the overall refereeing standards in the league.
