Khaled Eid Mohamed Elshamy, the Egyptian Financial Director of the Aid Society, has provided critical testimony on the alleged misappropriation of funds by former Acting Country Director Mohamed Ahmed Sillah.
Elshamy revealed that a complaint was filed against Sillah after the organization’s Financial Controller, Hamma Abdellahi, reported irregularities while Sillah was stationed in Bo. According to Elshamy, Sillah collected €84,525 from Vista Bank, claiming the money was intended for purchasing supplies such as rice, medicine, and prayer mats for mosques.
However, receipts later obtained from City Trading Company (CTC), a business dealing in electronics and pharmacy items, raised suspicions. The receipts, which showed purchases in Freetown from a dealer named Bibo Brown, appeared falsified. Verification by the West Coast Regional Director in Kenema confirmed the receipts were not genuine, prompting further investigation.
Elshamy also testified that Sillah admitted in June 2023 that the receipts were indeed falsified. The case further implicated another employee, Mr. Ndajibo Nyegla, who was subsequently terminated.
Sillah remains in custody at the male correctional facility in Freetown following his remand by Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah. The court proceedings are set to continue on March 19, 2026.
