Four Men Granted Bail in Grievous Bodily Harm Case

Four men facing serious allegations of violent assault have been granted bail following a preliminary hearing at the Pademba Road Court No. 1.

Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah presided over the proceedings, granting conditional release to Ishmael Turay, 35, a businessman; David Turay, 38, a bar attendant; Ibrahim Paul Sangoh, 32, an electrician; and Mohamed Mohamed Kamara, 32.

The accused face three counts under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861: causing grievous bodily harm with intent (Section 18), wounding (Section 20), and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (Section 47).

According to court documents, the alleged incident took place on July 23, 2026, at No. 2 River Community, located off Peninsular Road in the Western Area of Freetown. The prosecution alleges that the defendants unlawfully and maliciously attacked Joseph Kamara, inflicting severe bodily injuries.

During the court appearance, charges were read and explained to the defendants. However, no pleas were taken as the case is proceeding under committal proceedings.

Prosecuting counsel Assistant Commissioner of Police Juan M.S. Bull presented two witnesses before the bench. Following cross-examination by defence counsel A.O. Gbla, the defense, renewed its application for bail on behalf of all four men.

Magistrate Jah set bail at Le50,000 for each defendant, backed by one surety in the same amount. Per the court's order, sureties must be Sierra Leonean nationals residing within the Freetown jurisdiction, under 40 years of age, and able to produce valid identification.

Approval of the bail terms remains subject to verification by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The case has been adjourned to October 6, 2026, for further hearing. The allegations against the accused remain to be proven in court.
