The Mayor of Freetown, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has written to the Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Ambassador Tamba Lamina, urging his urgent intervention regarding concerns over the conduct of the Chief Administrator of the Freetown City Council (FCC).
In her letter dated 8th October 2025, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr referenced a correspondence from the Executive Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) dated 7th October 2025, which indicated that the Ministry had received her earlier complaint on the matter.
She reminded the Minister that, under Section 42 (1)(a–d) of the Local Government Act 2022, it is the Local Government Service Commission that holds the legal authority to handle matters concerning the staff of local councils. The Mayor further noted that Sections 105–107 of the same Act outline the role of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, which does not extend to mediating or resolving personnel disputes within local councils.
“Based on the foregoing, the matters raised in my letter to the Executive Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission, and the matters raised by the Chief Administrator in his letter to you dated 30 September 2025, should be addressed by the Local Government Service Commission,” the Mayor stated.

She concluded by expressing confidence that the law would be upheld and that the issues would be handled by the appropriate authority.
