The Ministry of Finance and the World Bank have signed a pivotal contract agreement for the Resilient Urban Sierra Leone Project (RUSLP), marking a major step in upgrading market infrastructures in Kenema and Makeni.
Under the agreement, a $5 million contract has been awarded to Ambitious Construction Company for the construction of a modern fisheries market in Kenema City. The project aims to transform Kenema’s economic landscape by improving trade facilities, enhancing urban resilience, and boosting livelihoods for local traders and residents.
Excited residents have praised Mayor Thomas Baio for his tireless advocacy and commitment to Kenema’s development. Many described the project as a “remarkable achievement” and commended his leadership in securing such a transformative investment.
“Our Mayor always puts the people first, and this $5 million project is proof of his dedication to our city’s progress,” said one resident following the symbolic signing ceremony.
The fisheries market project forms part of the wider RUSLP initiative, designed to modernize key infrastructure and promote economic growth across Sierra Leone.
In a related development, the Makeni Central Market contract was awarded to Micheletti & Company Limited, in joint venture with S&H Trading Investment SL Limited, valued at $4.18 million.
Together, these projects are expected to strengthen urban markets, create jobs, and expand economic opportunities in both Kenema and Makeni.
