Court Remands Businessman for Allegedly Stealing $10,000 and Valuables at Parliament

A businessman, Ibrahim Sorie Koroma, has been brought before the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 in Freetown, accused of stealing a black bag containing $10,000 (Ten Thousand United States Dollars) and other valuables belonging to John Melvin Kuminah.
Koroma appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah on Thursday, October 9, 2025, where he was charged with Larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged incident occurred on September 8, 2025, at the House of Parliament in Freetown. The accused is said to have stolen a black leather bag containing $10,000, NLe 4,060, a Watts power bank, a Samsung mobile phone, and other items valued at a total of NLe 260,560, all property of the complainant, John Melvin Kuminah.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.
Prosecutor Sergeant Mohamed Lahai requested a short adjournment, citing the absence of witnesses in court.
Magistrate Jah denied bail and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to October 16, 2025, for further hearing.
