Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr of Freetown has publicly contradicted claims made by the police regarding property ownership in a recent high-profile drug laboratory discovery. Her social media post seemingly directly challenges information presented during a police press briefing, raising questions about the ongoing investigation.
During a press conference held on Wednesday at Police Headquarters, CSP Alieu, Head of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), detailed the discovery of a drug laboratory of initially unknown ownership. He stated that after a three-month investigation, including a background check at the Freetown City Council, popular rapper Natasha Beckley was identified as the property owner.
However, on Thursday evening, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr posted a statement asserting that the Freetown City Council lacks the authority to confirm property ownership. She clarified that this power rests exclusively with the Administrator & Registrar-General, located at the Roxy Building.

This new development casts a shadow over the evidence presented by the police in the widely followed drug trafficking case. It prompts serious questions regarding the thoroughness of the investigation, the reliability of presented evidence, and the overall professionalism of the police in unearthing criminal activity.
