A 26-year-old security guard has been remanded to the Male Correctional Centre following his initial appearance in court for the alleged theft of construction materials and equipment valued at over 145,000 Leones from his employer.

The defendant, identified as Sampha Koroma, appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Friday.

Koroma faced a single count of larceny by servant, a violation of Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

Court documents reveal that the incident occurred on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at a premises located along Wilkinson Road. Koroma, while in the employ of Mohamed Kamara, is alleged to have stolen a generator battery, iron props, and thirty pieces of plywood.

The total value of the items, deemed the property of Mr. Kamara, is estimated at 145,500 Leones.

As the matter is being treated as a committal proceeding, no formal plea was entered after the charges were read and explained to the defendant.

During the hearing, the prosecutor, Inspector Kadie M. Taylor, confirmed to the bench that the defense had been served with the relevant case and inquiry files to facilitate the legal process.

Citing the gravity of the allegations, Magistrate Jah denied the defendant's application for bail. Koroma has been remanded in custody, and the case is scheduled for further proceedings on July 9, 2026.
