Gambia Defeat Hosts Senegal to Lift WAFU-A U-17 Trophy

The Gambia has been crowned champions of the WAFU-A U-17 Championship after defeating hosts Senegal 5–3 on penalties following a goalless final in Senegal.

In a tense and closely contested final, the Scorpions held their nerve against the host nation, with neither side able to find the breakthrough during regulation time.

The decisive moment came in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Senegal were awarded a penalty. Gambian goalkeeper Vanou Gomez produced a crucial save from the spot to keep the score level and send the final into a penalty shootout.

The Scorpions then showed composure from the penalty spot, converting all five of their attempts to secure a 5–3 shootout victory and lift the WAFU-A U-17 trophy.

For head coach Yahya Manneh and his players, the triumph marks a significant moment for Gambian youth football, with the team securing its first-ever WAFU-A U-17 Championship title.

The Gambia also completed the tournament with an impressive defensive record against Senegal, having kept the hosts from scoring in both encounters between the two sides.

The victory sparked celebrations among the Gambian delegation and supporters as the Scorpions secured their place in WAFU-A U-17 Championship history.
