Green Scenery Hosts Digital Security Training for Pujehun Advocates

Green Scenery Sierra Leone, supported by Protection International, recently concluded an intensive two-day training seminar focused on Safe Advocacy and Digital Security. The event, held at Sorbeh Grima Court Barry in Kpanga Chiefdom, targeted members of the Malen Land Affected Owners Association (MALOA) and various local stakeholders.

The initiative aimed to equip community representatives, traditional uthorities, and media personnel with the tools necessary to navigate the increasingly complex landscape of land rights activism. Achmed Tejan Bashir, Project Officer for Green Scenery, informed Pujehun Daily News that the curriculum was designed to bolster community resilience against legal and security threats, such as intimidation and harassment often faced when challenging corporate malpractice.

"Our goal is to strengthen community knowledge on safe advocacy while introducing digital platforms as powerful tools for change," Bashir stated. "Participants must understand how to protect themselves while amplifying their voices."

Joseph Rahall, Green Scenery's Communications Officer, led sessions on the technical aspects of digital safety. He emphasized the critical importance of securing personal data and private communications in the digital age. Rahall urged activists to use social media responsibly to advocate for environmental protection, land governance, and climate justice, stressing that professional digital conduct is a prerequisite for safety.

Adding a practical perspective, Emmanuel Fawundu, Executive Director of RACAP-SL, delivered a presentation on strategic online communication. He cautioned participants to remain within legal frameworks, advocating for impactful but lawful action.

The training was well-received by local leaders. Madam Aminata Sowa, Town Chief of Singo Malen, praised the program as a "timely and impactful" intervention. She noted that the session significantly boosted her confidence in utilizing digital tools for community advocacy and pledged to cascade this vital knowledge to her peers.

The workshop concluded with a collective call for evidence-based advocacy to promote transparency, accountability, and environmental justice across the Pujehun District.
