Justice Santigie Ibrahim Sorie Bangura of the High Court has handed down a life sentence to Amos Aidan Daniel following his conviction for the sexual penetration of a two-year-old girl in Sierra Leone’s Eastern Province.
Daniel pleaded guilty to three counts brought under the Sexual Offences Act 2012, as amended in 2019. In addition to the life sentence imposed for the first count, the court sentenced the defendant to two concurrent 10-year prison terms for the remaining charges related to the March 4, 2026, incidents.
During the proceedings, State Prosecutor C.R. Sesay presented the defendant’s prior criminal record as an aggravating factor for consideration.
While defense counsel A.O. Kamara sought leniency by citing Daniel’s cooperation and early guilty plea, Justice Bangura emphasized the gravity of the crime.
The judge noted that such offenses cause irreparable harm to young victims and the fabric of society, stating that the maximum penalty was necessary to reflect the severity of the violation of the child's innocence.
