Hon. Aminata Sesay, an APC Member of Parliament for Port Loko District, has been appointed to the newly established Adhoc Oversight Committee on the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL). The committee was announced by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, during a recent plenary session.

The formation of this body fulfills Recommendation 20 of the Tripartite Committee Report. It is designed to function as an independent parliamentary unit tasked with monitoring ECSL operations to ensure the integrity, transparency, and credibility of future electoral processes in Sierra Leone.

Speaker Thomas emphasized that the committee is vital for safeguarding democratic institutions.

“This committee will ensure that ECSL operates within the law and that the concerns of citizens are addressed proactively,” he stated, noting that the public deserves a process trusted by all stakeholders.

Reflecting a bipartisan approach, the committee is chaired by the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, with Majority Leader Hon. Mathew S. Nyuma serving as Deputy Chairman.

The remaining membership includes representatives from both government and opposition benches.

As a member, Hon. Sesay will help oversee electoral preparations, budget implementation, and the Commission’s engagement with political parties.

The committee is expected to provide regular progress reports to Parliament as part of the broader effort to implement Tripartite recommendations and bolster public confidence.
