ICPNC Officials Return From Peacebuilding Seminar In China

Three officials of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) have returned to Sierra Leone after participating in an Environmental Emergency Response and Peace Seminar in China.

The officials presented their certificates to the ICPNC Executive Secretary, Madam Hawa Sally Samai, during a meeting held at the Commission following their return.

The delegation was led by Deputy Executive Secretary Moses Margao and included Deputy Director of Conflict Prevention Simeonette Uwanie Pontis and Conflict Resolution Officer for the North-West Region, Francis Patterson.

Speaking during the meeting, Margao expressed appreciation to the Commission’s Board and staff for providing them with the opportunity to participate in the international seminar.

He said the programme provided an opportunity for the Sierra Leonean delegation to exchange knowledge, experiences and ideas with participants from different countries, noting that the lessons gained could contribute to the Commission’s work in peacebuilding and conflict prevention.

Margao also expressed hope that more ICPNC staff would benefit from similar international training opportunities in the future.

Pontis described the seminar as educational, informative and engaging. She said the Sierra Leonean delegation made presentations and interacted with participants from various countries, while also gaining insights into China, its people and culture.

Meanwhile, Patterson said the delegation was proud to have represented Sierra Leone and the ICPNC at the international gathering.

He added that the seminar provided the team with an opportunity to showcase Sierra Leonean culture to Chinese citizens and participants from other countries.

The officials are expected to share the knowledge and experiences gained during the seminar with their colleagues and communities as part of efforts to strengthen the ICPNC’s peacebuilding, conflict prevention and national cohesion initiatives.
