The Sherbro Alliance project, led by Idris Elba, has received official approval and legal backing.
Idris Elba's plan to develop a state-of-the-art city in the Sherbro Islands of Sierra Leone has been formally endorsed by Parliament and is now pending presidential approval. This marks a pivotal achievement, six years after the actor first introduced the project, which is intended as a tourist destination under a public-private partnership model.
President Bio commended the initiative and its prospective advantages for Sierra Leone, emphasizing the essential contributions of Elba and the Sherbro Alliance Partners (SAP Ltd.). The newly formed Sherbro Island Development Authority (SIDA) will oversee the project collaboratively, managed by both the Government of Sierra Leone and SAP Ltd., illustrating the partnership initiated by Elba.
The Sherbro Island City Investment Framework Agreement seeks to develop Sherbro Island in Bonthe District into a contemporary, environmentally sustainable city and Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
President Bio emphasized its potential to promote economic diversification, infrastructure development, tourism, and job creation, aligning with a national vision for strategic partnerships and inclusive growth.
The project will commence with essential infrastructure development and environmental evaluations, signifying a transformative phase for Sierra Leone's progress.
