The Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, has called on newly recruited officers of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to uphold the highest standards of discipline, stressing that professional excellence in law enforcement begins with unwavering character and conduct.
Addressing trainees at the Sierra Leone Police Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA) in Hastings on May 7, 2026, the Inspector General emphasized the importance of the transition from civilian life to disciplined police service.
He described discipline as the “bedrock” of effective policing, noting that it is not merely a set of rules but the foundation upon which the entire police institution is built.
IGP Sellu urged recruits to strictly adhere to academy regulations, develop strong ethical standards necessary for public service, and remain mindful that their individual actions reflect the reputation of the entire police force.
In a firm warning, the Inspector General also reiterated the Sierra Leone Police’s zero-tolerance policy on the use of illegal drugs, cautioning that any involvement in drug-related activities would not be tolerated within the force.
The engagement served both as a morale boost and a reality check for the recruits undergoing rigorous physical and mental training ahead of their deployment.
As they prepare to join the frontline of public safety, the IGP reaffirmed that integrity remains non-negotiable in the Sierra Leone Police Service.
