The Ministry of Health’s Special Education Unit, in collaboration with Focus 1000, convened a strategic one-day engagement with digital content creators and influencers to bolster immunization advocacy.
This initiative aligns with African Vaccination Week, observed annually from April 24th to 30th, and the Government’s "300 Days of Activism on Immunization" campaign.
Musa Jalloh, Programmes Manager for Focus 1000, emphasized that the engagement seeks to empower influencers as champions for the Ministry’s zero-dose immunization goals and the reduction of maternal mortality.
By leveraging their expansive digital reach, participants are encouraged to disseminate accurate information, raise public awareness, and proactively combat vaccine-related misinformation. Focus 1000 committed to providing ongoing guidance to ensure the delivery of high-quality, factual health messaging.
Senior Health Promotion Officer Ibrahim Sorie Koroma highlighted the clinical necessity of early intervention, noting that children who miss initial vaccinations face significantly higher risks of preventable diseases.
He outlined the standard pediatric immunization regimen, which commences immediately at birth and encompasses over 14 doses within the first 15 months of life.
Mr. Koroma concluded by clarifying that a child is formally recognized as fully immunized only upon the successful administration of the MR2 vaccine and all other scheduled antigens within the national program.
