SLPP Cites Historical Legacy as Basis for 2028 Election Ambition

The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has pointed to its historical legacy and role in national development as central to its ambition to win the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on ECKO Media, SLPP National Publicity Secretary Moses Mambu said the party remains committed to what he described as a broader responsibility to the country.

“SLPP is still fighting for the soul of Sierra Leone that is why we want to win the 2028 elections,” he said.

Mambu also referenced the contributions of President Julius Maada Bio, stating that his decision to join the military during a critical period in the country’s history demonstrated patriotism and national service.

“President Bio sacrificed his future at a point by joining the military to protect Sierra Leone,” he stated.

He further argued that the SLPP’s role is deeply embedded in the country’s historical and developmental trajectory.

“There is no positive history you can write about Sierra Leone that does not include SLPP,” Mambu added.

Describing the party as one of the oldest political organisations in West Africa, he said its legacy is closely linked to what he termed Sierra Leone’s liberation and progress.

“For 75 years now, the SLPP is not only the oldest political party in West Africa but also a liberator for Sierra Leone,” he said.

Mambu’s remarks come as political parties begin positioning ahead of the 2028 general elections, with issues of legacy, governance, and national identity increasingly shaping political discourse.
