International moral guarantors in Sierra Leone recently convened a strategic session with the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) and the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA). This engagement is a critical component of ongoing initiatives designed to bolster electoral integrity and reinforce democratic governance within the nation.

The delegation, currently facilitating mediation between the Government of Sierra Leone and the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), is responsible for monitoring the effective implementation of the 2023 Agreement for National Unity.

Led by the former Vice President of The Gambia, Honorable Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, the high-level mission includes delegates from the United Nations, ECOWAS, the Commonwealth, and various international partner organizations.

During the proceedings, the delegation met with the Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the ECSL, Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha, and other commissioners to discuss core electoral processes and institutional mandates. Mr. Mohamed M. Massaquoi, Director General of the NCRA, also participated in these high-level deliberations.

This collaborative effort reflects a broader commitment by international partners to promote transparency, institutional accountability, and sustained dialogue among primary electoral stakeholders.

Furthermore, the engagement underscores Sierra Leone's dedication to post-election reforms, which are vital for enhancing public trust in democratic institutions following the June 2023 general elections.
