Former Sierra Leone and FC Kallon midfielder, Khalifa Jabbie, has weighed in forcefully on the trending debate surrounding the head coach appointment for the Leone Stars, specifically addressing the capability of local coaches.

Jabbie refuted the notion that domestic coaches are unqualified, suggesting that critics who make such claims are either "inattentive" or "chosen to ignore reality".

He pointed to Sierra Leone’s own historical precedent to underscore his argument. The national team endured a 25-year qualification drought for the Africa Cup of Nations, spanning from 1996 to 2021, despite employing numerous experienced and respected foreign coaches. 

Jabbie emphasized that it was a local coach, possessing a deep understanding of the players' mentality and the domestic environment, who ultimately delivered the coveted qualification that had eluded the nation for decades.

Furthermore, Jabbie cited successful examples across the continent, highlighting African coaches who have achieved significant success: Stephen Keshi, who delivered an AFCON title; Aliou Cissé, who made history with Senegal; and Otto Addo, who secured crucial qualifications under pressure. 

He concluded that the idea of "local" status being a limitation "doesn't come from facts," but rather from a "narrow mindset". 

Jabbie concluded with a challenge to accountability, stating that if progress is desired, it requires "honesty, accountability, and unity," and warned that "in football, time doesn’t forget. It exposes".
