Judiciary Registrar Files Misconduct Complaint Against Lawyer Augustine Marrah

The Deputy Master and Registrar of the Judiciary of Sierra Leone, Mr. Lloyd Hindolo Jusu, has formally lodged a complaint against legal practitioner Augustine Sorie Sengbe Marrah Esq., alleging professional misconduct.

The complaint, dated December 16, 2025, was submitted to the General Secretary of the General Legal Council and copied to the Honourable Chief Justice. In the letter, Mr. Jusu accused Mr. Marrah of conduct he said was intended to bring the legal profession into disrepute.

According to the complaint, Mr. Marrah recently appeared on a televised programme during which he allegedly used insulting, derogatory, and inappropriate language directed at members of the judiciary. The Registrar stated that the remarks appeared calculated to undermine public confidence in the administration of justice and were inconsistent with the standards expected of a legal practitioner.

The letter further referenced previous incidents involving Mr. Marrah, including a video purportedly showing him climbing onto a table during a meeting at the Supreme Court. It also recalled that on October 30, 2020, Mr. Marrah was convicted of criminal contempt by the Supreme Court, which the Registrar described as relevant to the present complaint.

In his submission, the Registrar argued that the alleged actions, taken collectively, demonstrate a pattern of behaviour that violates the ethical standards of the legal profession and undermines the authority of the courts. He requested that the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council initiate a formal investigation and take appropriate action in accordance with the Legal Practitioners Act, 2000, and the Code of Conduct for Legal Practitioners, 2010. Video materials relating to the allegations were reportedly submitted as part of the complaint.

Following the filing of the complaint, the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council issued a notice to Mr. Marrah, informing him of the allegations and enclosing the relevant documents. The notice, addressed to his law firm, Marrah & Associates, requires him to file an affidavit in response, together with any supporting documents, on or before December 29, 2025.

The Committee stated that it is acting pursuant to Section 31(4) of the Legal Practitioners Act, 2000, which empowers it to determine whether a formal inquiry should be conducted.

The matter is now before the Disciplinary Committee for consideration in accordance with established legal and professional procedures.
