Senior Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) prominent member Alie Kabba has commended the recent decision to grant bail to the All People’s Congress (APC) National Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya, characterizing it as a significant affirmation of the rule of law and the nation’s commitment to unity.
In a publicly released statement, Kabba acknowledged the judiciary for its adherence to constitutional principles and for strengthening the perception of independence within Sierra Leone’s courts. “I commend the Magistrate and the judiciary for upholding the rule of law by granting bail to Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya. This decision is crucial in reinforcing public confidence in the independence of our courts and affirms the constitutional foundations upon which our democracy is built.”
Kabba stressed the imperative that governance be guided by legal statutes, rather than influenced by emotional reactions or partisan considerations. He asserted that the sustainability of democracy depends fundamentally on ensuring that due process and constitutional rights are uniformly respected for all citizens, irrespective of their political alignment.
Furthermore, he urged political stakeholders to eschew vindictiveness and selective justice, simultaneously calling for the responsible exercise of freedom of expression. “Loyalty to party and country does not equate to silence. It requires the moral courage to insist upon the same standards that we demand of others.”
Concluding his remarks, Kabba underscored that the consistent defense of the rule of law is vital for securing peace, stability, and national progress in Sierra Leone. “By consistently defending the rule of law, we earn the profound trust of the people and safeguard the peace, stability, unity, and progress of our beloved Sierra Leone.”
