KenDSU Rolls Out Free Summer School Programme for Kenema Pupils

The Kenema District Students Union (KenDSU), under the leadership of its National Executive President, Md. Sandra Cowan, has officially launched its Free Quality Summer School programme to provide free academic support to pupils during the school vacation.

The programme was launched on Monday, 3 August 2026, at Holy Trinity Secondary School and Saint James Secondary School in Kenema City, as part of efforts to complement the Government of Sierra Leone’s Free Quality Education (FQE) initiative.

According to the Union, the initiative is designed to enhance pupils’ academic performance and better prepare them for the upcoming academic year through free lessons delivered by volunteer tutors.

Speaking at the launch, the KenDSU leadership reaffirmed its commitment to promoting educational excellence and creating opportunities for students to improve their learning outcomes, irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds.

The Union described education as a vital driver of national development, noting that the Free Quality Summer School programme reflects its commitment to empowering young people by providing accessible and quality learning opportunities.

KenDSU also expressed appreciation to the management and staff of Holy Trinity Secondary School and Saint James Secondary School for providing the facilities and support needed for the successful implementation of the programme.

The Union further commended its team of volunteer tutors for their dedication and selfless service in supporting pupils and contributing to the development of education in the district.

The Free Quality Summer School is expected to benefit a significant number of pupils across Kenema District, further strengthening KenDSU’s role in promoting education and supporting the Government’s efforts to improve learning outcomes nationwide.
