In advancement for healthcare infrastructure in Sierra Leone's Eastern Region, Kenema City Mayor Thomas Karim Baio has embarked on the extensive renovation of the Surgical Ward and Female Ward 2 at the Kenema Government Hospital.
This initiative is set to significantly improve medical services and patient care in the area.
The project, considered a vital enhancement to the city's medical facilities, highlights Mayor Baio's steadfast commitment to the well-being of Kenema's residents.
The Surgical Ward and Female Ward 2, which have long suffered from disrepair and outdated equipment, are currently undergoing a comprehensive transformation.
The objective is to establish a more hygienic, conducive, and modern environment for both patients and dedicated medical staff.
Mayor Baio, discussing the initiative, emphasized his administration's proactive approach to healthcare access.
"Access to quality healthcare is not a luxury, but a fundamental right," Mayor Baio stated. "We are not solely dependent on the central government; we are taking action where it is most needed to address existing gaps."
The refurbishment has been widely praised by both medical personnel and patients, who express great optimism that the improvements will greatly enhance service delivery and reduce the need for patient referrals to distant healthcare centers.
The project is expected to be completed within a few weeks and, once fully operational, is projected to serve hundreds of patients each month, ushering in a new era of enhanced healthcare accessibility in Kenema.
