Kenema Marks World Teachers' Day With Unity Football Match

Educators, community leaders, and students gathered at the Kenema City Field on October 5, 2026, to celebrate World Teachers’ Day with a friendly football match between government and private school teachers.
The event brought together key educational personnel, parents, media representatives, and local stakeholders to honor the central role educators play in national development and human capital growth.
Speaking ahead of the kickoff, Abdul Karim Vangahun, District Coordinator for Free Quality School Education in Kono District, emphasized that the annual observance acknowledges the dedication and resilience of teachers. He noted that the match served as a vital platform to foster camaraderie and professional relationships beyond the classroom.
Madam Margaret Salome Amara, Proprietress of Dynamic International Academy, highlighted the foundational role teachers play in shaping future workforce leaders. She urged the wider community to strengthen support for educators, stressing that empowering teachers directly contributes to building a stronger nation.
Organized by Umaru Sallu Sawaneh, Samuel Coomber, and Mr. Conteh, the match was officially kicked off by Vangahun and Amara. The event also featured a special recognition ceremony for Dr. Christian Gendemeh of Malegohun Chiefdom, who was honored for his international academic contributions to sports management and development.
On the field, the competitive encounter ended in a 1–0 victory for the Government School Teachers over their private school counterparts. Beyond the final score, attendees celebrated the shared spirit of unity, collaboration, and commitment to advancing education across Sierra Leone.
