The Eastern Regional Police Command has moved to strengthen community safety by forming a closer partnership with traditional leaders in Kenema City. Eastern Regional Police Commander, Mr. Joe Kamanda Bongay, ACP, hosted a delegation of eleven tribal heads at the Regional Headquarters to discuss collaborative strategies for maintaining peace and public order.

The meeting focused on leveraging the influence of traditional authorities to encourage law-abiding behavior and resolve community grievances. Speaking on behalf of the tribal leaders, Mr. Ismail Sesay, the Madigo Tribal Head, praised the initiative, noting that tribal heads are uniquely positioned to assist the police with timely information and promote peaceful coexistence.

For his part, Commander Bongay, representing Inspector General of Police Mr. William Fayia Sellu, underscored his long-standing commitment to community-based policing. He emphasized that his past successes in law enforcement have been built on working hand-in-hand with local communities.

In a significant move to improve police visibility and response times, Commander Bongay announced that Kenema City has been mapped into nine distinct security zones. These zones are intended to streamline security service delivery across the city.

The engagement concluded with both the Police Command and the tribal heads reaffirming a shared commitment to ongoing information sharing, aiming to bolster public confidence and ensure long-term security in Kenema.
