The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Kenema Division has conducted a focused training session aimed at bolstering professionalism and ensuring public safety among its officers through proper firearm handling and ethical conduct.
The session, which took place during a general parade, was spearheaded by Sergeant Rogers, Head of the Armoury Unit. Sergeant Rogers delivered a comprehensive lecture on firearm safety, covering correct handling techniques and the strictly defined circumstances under which a weapon may be discharged. His core message was a commitment to risk minimization and upholding public safety standards.
Further reinforcing procedural excellence, Inspector Banard Ndomawa briefed officers on best practices for responding to scenes where firearms are discovered. He emphasized the critical need for maintaining situational control, safeguarding the public, and meticulously preserving evidence.
Addressing the moral framework of policing, Local Unit Commander, Chief Superintendent Bob Musa Mansaray, urged officers to rigorously adhere to the ethical principles encapsulated in the acronym PLANE: Proportionality, Legality, Accountability, Necessity, and Ethics. Chief Superintendent Mansaray stressed that these values must serve as a non-negotiable guide for all armed personnel in their daily operations.
This training initiative is part of the SLP's ongoing mandate to ensure law enforcement officers consistently operate within the confines of the law while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and public trust.
