On January 8, 2025, two defendants, Abu Kamando, identified as a farmer from Madina village in Wandor Chiefdom, and Mohamed Sheriff, a herbalist from Nongowa Chiefdom, were formally remanded to the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC) in Kenema. The order was issued by His Worship, Magistrate Hadiru Daboh, of Magistrate Court No. 1, following their arraignment on charges that include murder and attempted murder.
Mr. Kamando faces a charge of murder, contrary to Section 1 of the Offences Against the Persons Act of 1861, as amended and replaced by Section 1 of the Abolition of Death Penalty Act No. 6 of 2022. Concurrently, Mr. Sheriff has been charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent, and causing grievous bodily harm, all offenses under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Persons Act of 1861.
The prosecution alleges that on Saturday, June 28, 2025, within the bush of Madina village in Wandor Chiefdom, Abu Kamando allegedly committed the murder of Bundu Kamando. No plea was entered for Mr. Kamando, and he remains remanded at the SLCC in Kenema. His case is scheduled to resume on January 20, 2026.
In a distinct matter, on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at No. 17 Sheikh Abubakarr Street, Lumbebu axis in Kenema City, Mohamed Sheriff is alleged to have attempted to murder Michel Paul Nicole. The alleged assault involved inflicting severe injuries to both of the victim's legs, severing his left thumb with a machete, and spraying a liquid suspected to be acid into his eyes. Mr. Sheriff also did not enter a plea and was remanded to the SLCC in Kenema. This case has been adjourned to January 16, 2025, for preliminary proceedings.
Both cases are being managed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sulaiman Kamara, Esq., who is attached to the Legal and Justice Support Department of the Kenema Police Division.
