Mayor Komba Mathew Sam of the Koidu New Sembehun City Council has formally announced a prohibition on artist Alhaji Amadu Bah, professionally known as LAJ, from participating in all public performances, exhibitions, and municipal-sponsored events. This administrative action follows the artist's recent use of derogatory and unprofessional language directed toward Mayor Thomas Baio of the Kenema City Council.
In an official statement released on March 25, 2026, Mayor Sam characterized the artist's rhetoric as inflammatory and disrespectful. He emphasized that such behavior is inconsistent with the standards of civic decorum and undermines the integrity of public office and the spirit of public service.
“While our administration remains a steadfast proponent of freedom of expression and the right to provide constructive feedback to public officials, a clear distinction must be maintained between legitimate accountability and professional harassment,” Mayor Sam stated.
The suspension of privileges will remain in effect until a formal, written apology is issued to Mayor Thomas Baio and the offensive remarks are publicly retracted, according to the Council’s directive.
Mayor Sam further noted that the conduct in question exceeded the bounds of democratic engagement, serving only to humiliate a dedicated public servant rather than fostering productive community dialogue.
“Koidu New Sembehun City continues to value artistic talent and professional excellence; however, we must also prioritize community decency and mutual respect. This measure ensures the preservation of those values,” the Mayor concluded.
This decision underscores the City’s commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and reinforcing the expectation of professional conduct in all public interactions involving citizens, artists, and government representatives.
