In a significant advancement of bilateral relations, the diplomatic ties between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Kyrgyz Republic were formally reaffirmed during a high-level engagement held on Wednesday at the Sierra Leone Chancery in Riyadh.

His Excellency Ulukbek Maripov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was received by His Excellency Mohammed Barrie, Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone, for a courtesy visit centered on the enhancement of bilateral cooperation and strategic multilateral diplomacy.

The deliberations, characterized by mutual respect and a shared vision for international stability, underscored the commitment of both sovereign states to broaden their diplomatic engagement and foster partnerships within the global community.

During the session, Ambassador Maripov formally presented the Kyrgyz Republic’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term. In anticipation of the elections scheduled to take place in June 2026 in New York, the Kyrgyz envoy extended a formal appeal for the support of the Republic of Sierra Leone regarding this significant international bid.

In his response, Ambassador Barrie expressed his profound appreciation for the outreach and emphasized Sierra Leone’s enduring dedication to constructive international collaboration. He assured Ambassador Maripov that the Kyrgyz Republic’s request would be transmitted with due protocol to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Freetown for formal consideration and executive review.

The dialogue further explored various facets of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts within international forums to strengthen the framework of global diplomacy. This meeting serves as a testament to Sierra Leone’s proactive role in the international arena, particularly in championing multilateral decision-making and fostering dialogue at the United Nations.
