Laborer Appears in Court Over Burglary Charges

A mobile phone and laptop are at the centre of a burglary case now before Pademba Road Court No. 1, where labourer John Marrah has appeared on charges linked to an alleged break-in at a home in New England Ville.
Marrah made his first appearance on Thursday before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah, charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and burglary and larceny under Sections 25(1) and 13(a) of the Larceny Act, 1916. According to the prosecution’s particulars, the alleged incident took place on 29 October 2026 at Mount Carmel, New England Ville, where Marrah is accused of conspiring with other people, who are now at large, to commit burglary and larceny.
The second charge alleges that he broke into the dwelling house of Dawdius During with intent to steal, taking a Samsung Galaxy A16 mobile phone and a Dell laptop with a combined value of NLe 13,000.
Case Enters Committal Stage
No plea was taken when the charges were read and explained to Marrah, as the matter is before the court for committal proceedings. Prosecutor Inspector Kadie Taylor told the court she had served Marrah with a copy of the case and inquiry file, which Marrah, who was not legally represented, acknowledged receiving.
Magistrate Jah refused bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences, though Marrah is presumed innocent unless the charges are proved in court. The matter was adjourned to 10 November 2026 for further proceedings.
