The recent performance by Alhaji Amadu Bah (professionally known as LAJ) at the Bo City Plaza has generated significant public interest, both for its cultural impact and for the artist's subsequent remarks regarding Kenema City Mayor Thomas Karimu Baio. While the event was a commercial success, the discourse following the performance has revisited historical tensions between the Peace Ambassador and municipal authorities.
Publicly available footage indicates that following the conclusion of the musical program, Mr. Bah addressed the audience regarding his standing relationship with Mayor Baio.
The rapper was seen in the video referring to Mayor Baio as a bastard.
This comment creates a new development to a documented incident occurring on May 5, 2024, on the Bo-Kenema Highway. Reports from that period indicate a confrontation involving Mr. Bah’s convoy and a third-party motorist, which necessitated the intervention of the Mayor.
The 2024 encounter resulted in the temporary detention of Mr. Bah and several associates at the Wanjama Checkpoint following allegations of verbal and physical altercations. While official accounts detailed a breach of civic protocol, Mr. Bah has consistently maintained through formal statements that his actions were misrepresented and that no violence occurred. This discrepancy between official reports and the artist's testimony remains a point of public contention.
Allegations from that period suggested that local residents and Mayor Baio had threatened Mr. Bah with initiation into a secret society as a punitive measure for perceived defiance; his subsequent release was secured only through the intervention of officials.
Following recent discussions between Mr. Bah's management and the Mayor's office concerning the scheduled March 22nd Kenema event, the artist's team cancelled the appearance on Friday 27th February. The formal statement noted that the threat of initiation had been reiterated during these meetings.
The subsequent public comment made on stage is alleged to have occurred in the aftermath of this interaction.
This publication is currently seeking formal statements from both parties to clarify the context and implications of the remarks made during the performance.
