Leone Stars Head Coach Names 25-Man Squad for Burkina Faso and Djibouti World Cup Qualifiers

Leone Stars head coach Mohamed Kallon has unveiled a 25-man squad ahead of Sierra Leone’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Burkina Faso and Djibouti.

Sierra Leone will play host to Burkina Faso on 8th October 2025 at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia, Liberia, before traveling to Morocco to face Djibouti on 12th October 2025. Both fixtures are seen as make-or-break encounters for the Leone Stars’ qualification ambitions.

With only two matches left in the group stage, the clash against Burkina Faso is particularly decisive. Victory would see Sierra Leone draw level on 15 points with the Stallions, though Burkina Faso would retain second place on goal difference. To keep their playoff hopes alive, the Leone Stars must also secure maximum points against Djibouti while banking on Burkina Faso to slip in their final group game against Ethiopia.

Coach Kallon, who took over earlier this year, expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to rise to the challenge. “We know what is at stake. These games will not be easy, but we are prepared to fight for Sierra Leone and give ourselves the chance to reach the playoffs,” he said.

The selected squad blends experienced internationals with young talents, reflecting Kallon’s strategy of combining stability with fresh energy as Sierra Leone looks to make history by edging closer to a first-ever World Cup appearance.

The double-header in October will not only test the Leone Stars’ resilience but also define their journey in the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
