Luawa FC boosted their survival hopes in the Leone Rock Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mighty Blackpool FC on Wednesday, April 29, at the SLFA Academy Field.
Heading into the encounter with relegation concerns mounting, Luawa FC delivered a determined performance in response to head coach Hassan Kamara’s call for a high-pressing and aggressive approach.
The match, however, did not begin smoothly for the “Cacao Boys,” who suffered a setback in the 24th minute when leading striker Mohamed Kargbo was forced off due to injury. His replacement, Melvin Koroma, made an immediate impact, injecting pace and energy into the attack.
Despite opportunities at both ends, the first half ended goalless, with Mighty Blackpool remaining organized while Luawa showed greater urgency in search of a breakthrough.
Luawa’s persistence eventually paid off in the second half. Following sustained pressure, the team won a corner, which Musa Suma delivered with precision. Koroma rose above the defense to head home the decisive goal, sending the home side into celebration.
The narrow victory secured all three points for Luawa FC, lifting them out of the relegation zone and marking a crucial turning point in their campaign after a difficult season near the bottom of the table.
For Mighty Blackpool, popularly known as the “Tis Tas Boys,” the defeat represents a missed opportunity to climb higher in the standings.
Coach Kamara will now look to build on the momentum as Luawa FC aim to retain their top-flight status in the closing stages of the season.
