Magistrate Orders Arrest of Absent Accused in Threatening Language Case

Magistrate Adama Kandeh of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 4 in Freetown has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Yusif, an accused who failed to appear in court to answer charges of threatening language and using an unapproved name.

Yusif faces two counts under the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965. On the first count, police allege that between March 20 and August 25, 2025, at Main Road, Goderich, Freetown, he threatened complainants Dura Bangura and Victoria F. Bangura, saying: “Ar go kill u n u uman for nating” and “Ar go burn u motor bike.” Prosecutors argue the words were intended to provoke a breach of the peace.

On the second count, Yusif is accused of calling Dura Bangura a “Tif man” on the same date and location, also with the intent to provoke.

When the matter was called, the accused was absent. Prosecutor M. Bayoh Esq. applied for a bench warrant under Section 25(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 6 of 2024.

Magistrate Kandeh granted the application and ordered Yusif’s arrest. The case has been adjourned to October 3, 2025.
