Major Milestone as Special Olympics Sierra Leone Signs Landmark Inclusion Agreement

Special Olympics Sierra Leone has achieved a major milestone with the official signing of the Global Coalition Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), held at Siphire Court Hall, marking a strengthened commitment to inclusion and support for athletes with intellectual disabilities across the country.


The agreement is expected to pave the way for a more sustainable and inclusive sporting environment, with a focus on expanding opportunities, improving support systems, and strengthening collaboration between key institutions.


The initiative brings together government bodies and human rights organizations in a shared effort to promote equality and enhance the participation of persons with intellectual disabilities in sports and community life.


Delivering the keynote address, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, described the signing as a historic achievement. He praised the resilience and determination of Special Olympics athletes, encouraging them to continue breaking barriers and serving as role models within society.


The ceremony also highlighted the growing commitment of stakeholders to advancing the rights and welfare of persons with intellectual disabilities, reinforcing a collective vision centered on empowerment, dignity, and social inclusion.


The event concluded with optimism among participants, who expressed confidence that the agreement will have a lasting positive impact on athletes and communities across Sierra Leone, strengthening efforts to build a more inclusive society.
