At the High Court Holding in Kenema on January 6, 2026, a defendant, Ibrahim Lahai, an unemployed resident of Forestry Quarters, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment for the offence of house breaking and larceny, contrary to Section 27(2) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
During proceedings before His Lordship, Hon. Justice Abdul Sheriff, the State Counsel, Andrew F. Kamara, informed the court that on April 25, 2025, Lahai broke into the dwelling of Ramatu Conteh in Kenema City with the intent to commit a felony. Lahai pleaded guilty and asked for mercy.
The prosecution successfully proved the case, and the court found Lahai guilty as charged. In mitigation, Defence Counsel Patrick Kamara, representing Lahai through the Legal Aid Board in Kenema, requested that the court temper justice with mercy, noting that Lahai is a first-time offender and expressed remorse for his actions.
Taking into account the guilty plea and the mitigation request, Justice Abdul Sheriff sentenced Lahai to 18 months’ imprisonment at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC) in Kenema, including time already served.
