Mason Jailed Four Years, Stolen Smartphone Ordered Returned

The High Court of Sierra Leone in the Eastern Region, presided over by Justice Abdul Sheriff in Kenema, has sentenced Ibrahim Alhaji, a mason from Boajibu Town, to four years of imprisonment following his conviction for house breaking and larceny.
Alhaji was indicted under Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act 1916. According to Court Registrar Thomas B. L. Sam, the incident occurred on April 9, 2026, in Njagbema Village, Simbaru Chiefdom.
The prosecution stated that the defendant broke into the residence of Ibrahim Abubakarr Turay with the intent to steal. He reportedly took a Tecno Spark 8 Android smartphone, machine plugs, assorted clothing, and cash totaling NLe 5,000. The stolen items and currency were valued at a combined NLe 9,685.
Upon the reading of the charges, Alhaji pleaded guilty and asked the court for mercy. Taking into account the guilty plea and the mitigation plea presented by defense counsel, Justice Sheriff sentenced Alhaji to serve four years at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in Kenema.
Additionally, the judge ordered that the Tecno Spark 8 smartphone submitted as evidence in the proceedings be returned to its owner, Ibrahim Abubakarr Turay.
