Mbalu Kargbo has cemented her dominance in Sierra Leonean women’s tennis after successfully defending her title to emerge as back-to-back Female Champion at the Sierra Leone Tennis Association 2026 National Championship, following her maiden triumph in 2025.
The tournament, staged across key venues including Hill Station Tennis Court and LOR Tennis Court, brought together some of the country’s finest emerging and established tennis talents. Kargbo, however, once again stood out, reinforcing her reputation as the leading force in Sierra Leone’s women’s game.
Despite facing stiff competition from high-caliber opponents, she displayed remarkable composure and tactical discipline throughout the championship, advancing through the stages with clinical precision to retain her crown.
Beyond her on-court success, Kargbo continues to make a meaningful impact off the court. As a lead female coach at the Hill Station Tennis Club, she plays a pivotal role in nurturing young talent through the “Support Sports in Sierra Leone” initiative, a program focused on identifying and mentoring the next generation of tennis players.
Speaking after her victory, an emotional Kargbo dedicated her success to her support system.
“This feat is for my friends and family. Their unwavering support has been the backbone of my success on and off the court,” she said after lifting the trophy.
Her consecutive championship victories mark a significant milestone for Sierra Leone tennis, reflecting the steady rise in the level of women’s competition within the SLTA framework.
With her dual role as both reigning champion and development coach, Kargbo remains a central figure in the continued growth of the sport.
The SLTA has also received commendation for expanding competitive opportunities nationwide. Stakeholders, including Charles Marshall and Andy Bam, alongside partners such as the National Olympic Committee & Commonwealth Games Association Sierra Leone and the UK in Sierra Leone, have continued to emphasize the importance of sustained investment in both grassroots and elite tennis development.
Kargbo’s achievement not only underscores her individual excellence but also signals a promising future for women’s tennis in Sierra Leone.
